Our family comes from a long line of kings and queens, princes and paupers, cowboys and Indians, and the men and women who helped shape history. Some were among the original Americans; some were descended from a Viking King. Some arrived on the Mayflower; some assisted the founding fathers, and a few were both the persecuted and persecutors in the Salem witch trials. Some followed the Oregon trail when the loss of 10 children in one week due to illness became too much to bear. They fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War. They shaped history on both sides of the Civil War and participated in both World Wars and the Korean War. They were politicians, law makers, law enforcement, criminals and thieves.
The first striking thing about our family is that our ancestors can all trace a convergence back to New England, some even crossing lines. The second most striking thing is how spread out our family tree is and how far they travelled to get there. From the Viking King Rollo to those who settled in the New World and made their way west, we seem more like gypsies or nomads than anything else. In this generation we can sometimes feel lost or alone in that distance.
I created this website to gather this varied and colorful history in one place. While family means something different to all of us, we do share a common genetic thread. And it’s for me as much as anyone because I suppose family means something deeper to me than to most.
This website went live on Christmas Day in 2025. It has been a struggle to get base information into it (just names and dates) and will be edited with extra information as I go. There are those in our family today who, for whatever reason, cannot be with others on this holiday. But we are all together even if it’s only in our blood. Merry Christmas and may this season remind us of what Christmas is about.
